Online Crazy Quilting Classes
I am beginning to host online classes in order to bring to you, in a convenient and affordable way, the knowledge of well respected teachers in the field of crazy quilting and fabric embellishment. Below is a description of how the classes work. Details will vary somewhat with the teacher or the class.
When you purchase the class you will receive an email invitation to join the Yahoo group that is dedicated to your class. Please follow the instructions in the invitation and join the group right away in order to download the supply list in advance of the first lesson.
The lessons will be posted in the files area of the Yahoo group as Adobe PDF documents. Simply click on the name of the file and it will open in your browser window. At that point, you can view the lesson, print the lesson and/or save it to your computer. Once on your computer, you will need a copy of the Adobe Reader program to open and print these files. This is a free program available from Adobe for both PC's and Mac's.
There will be one lesson posted each week, over a period of weeks depending on the class. The first lesson will be posted on the start date of the class and a new lesson will be posted after that each week. You will work through the lesson during the following week, however you are free to work at your own pace.
You may use the discussion group to ask questions of the teacher or make comments regarding the lesson. The class teacher will monitor the discussion on a regular basis and respond when appropriate to provide assistance or answer specific questions. Participation in the discussion is totally voluntary. The group is private so that only your fellow students and the teacher have access.
Yahoo offers several ways for you to choose the manner in which you wish to receive notification of postings to the group. You can receive emails or just visit the group at your convenience - your decision.
You are encouraged to upload images of your work online in the photo area of the yahoo class group. Posting of a work in progress may help the teacher more fully understand a question that you may have.
The group dedicated to this class will remain open for 3 weeks after the last lesson has been posted. All lesson documents are available during this period.

A - A Crazy Lady’s Guide to Embellishing - 4 Lessons by Christen Brown
Do you have a crazy pieced block or quilt top that is just waiting to be encrusted with embroidery, ribbonwork, and embellishment? In this class I will cover many techniques that you can use to create a unique and beautiful heirloom piece that will be passed down from family member to member. Please note that there will be no instructions to make or finish the block or quilt.

B - Seed Bead Botany - 4 Lessons by Nancy Eha
Learn how to make a bounty of botanical beauties (flowers, leaves, vines, berries, and grapes) for your crazy quilt projects. Numerous beading stitches will be taught using mostly small size 11 seed beads. Explore variations of these beading stitches: back stitch, stop stitch, lazy daisy, feather, and raised satin. After learning each stitch, students will be encouraged to explore and create original beaded beauties. No prior beading experience needed.

C - Bead Encrusted Cabochons/Buttons - 3 Lessons by Kathy Shaw
This class covers the creation of three beaded cabochons (buttons with metal shanks can be substituted in place of cabochons for this course). A cabochon is a stone that has a flat back. Today, cabochons often are manufactured of resin, acrylic, or glass…and might include a raised cameo or artistic scene etched into the faux stone. Some cabochons are smooth with a faux artwork decal adhered to the front. Large flat backed beads can also be beaded as cabochons.

E - Peacock in Paisley - 4 Lessons by Betty Pillsbury
Intricate motifs are a hallmark of Betty Pillsbury’s crazy quilt art. In this 4” x 6” paisley design, you will learn to attach a cabochon with beads, couch beads and use rose montees, bugle beads and floral beads. You will also stem stitch in metallic thread and make ribbon leaves, accented with charms. Expand your repertoire with this elegant design.

F - Embroider a Butterfly - 4 Lessons by J. Marsha Michler
Embroider a beautiful butterfly! Stitch a butterfly motif using shading and dimensional stitches. Add metallic and beaded highlights to complete the embroidery. Learn some methods for creating heirloom-quality motifs. It’s easier than it looks! Use your finished motif as a patch on a crazy quilt or other project, or frame it.
This class is suitable for both beginners and more experienced embroiderers, although beginners should first be familiar with a few basic stitches. Choose from two butterfly patterns (one is the model shown here, and the other a simpler, more basic design). Each butterfly pattern is provided in two sizes. There will be four lessons. G - Beaded Text Messages - 2 Lessons by Nancy Eha
Add a layer of meaning to your crazy quilts. Learn the finer points of creating several script and print font styles with continuous secure lines of beads on fabric. Write poetry, quotations, attention-grabbers, titles, and even sign your work of art. The project will be the word "Create" which requires learning all the beading skills needed to "write" any word.
